Why Does Hart of Dixie Cast Sound Funny

Hart of Dixie was a beloved masterpiece on The CW, airing from 2011 – 2015.

The series followed Dr. Zoe Hart, a New York transplant who fell in love with the town of Bluebell, and some of its residents, as she learned how to have a better bedside manner and how to be a better person.

Over the course of the series' 4 seasons, viewers saw a revolving door of new faces pop in and out. Sometimes it was for just one episode, sometimes it was for an entire story arc, but many of these faces were either already pretty well-known or on their way to becoming pretty well-known.

While I'm sure that just by clicking on this article you haven't forgotten about this amazing show, you may have forgotten that some of these well-known faces (in no particular order!) made appearances on Hart of Dixie .

1. Gary Cole (Dr. Ethan Hart)

Gary Cole Hart of Dixie

Gary Cole has been popping up on our screens for years, most recently on Veep and The Good Fight , but did you remember that he also appeared on Hart of Dixie  as Zoe's absent, famous surgeon, "not technically" father?

Dr. Ethan Hart popped into Bluebell twice during the show's first season to help Zoe realize that small-town Alabama might actually be just the place where she belongs.

2. Debra Jo Rupp (Betsy Maynard)

Debra Jo Rupp Hart of Dixie

Best known for her role as Kitty Foreman on That 70's Show and her turn as Phoebe's sister-in-law on Friends , Debra Jo Rupp also made a quick trip to Bluebell as Wanda's mother, Betsy.

Betsy was causing Wanda to stress out on her wedding day — big time. With a little help from Zoe (and some serious lovin' from Sal the Shrimp Guy), Betsy's relationship with Wanda's was repaired…while Zoe's own relationship was falling apart.

3. Nadine Velazquez (Didi Ruano)

Who could forget that this My Name is Earl star was a pretty big character on Hart of Dixie 's first season?

Didi Ruano went from Brick's receptionist to George's secretary and caused some problems for Lemon early on as she and Lavon got into a serious romance. Unfortunately for Didi, Lavon couldn't shake his feelings for his ex, and he and Didi parted ways.

4. Justin Hartley (Jesse Kinsella)

Before he was one of The Big Three on This is Us , Justin Hartley was one of the big two — as in the other Kinsella brother.

Unsurprisingly, there was a lot of tension when Jesse Kinsella came to town and took Zoe out on a date. Wade wasn't happy that his brother had swooped into town, knowing how quickly he'd swoop out. (He was just a big ol' swooper!)

Justin Hartley made us want to see more of Jesse Kinsella, though sadly, he only made a single appearance on the show.

5. Robert Buckley (Peter)

Robert Buckley Hart of Dixie

Though many thought Lemon's crush Peter was imaginary, he most certainly was not.

Robert Buckley's quick turn in Bluebell during Hart of Dixie Season 3 was refreshing, as he and Lemon had great chemistry and a really fun bond. Unfortunately, Peter's work took precedence over his budding romance with Lemon, and we didn't get much screen time with him.

However, if you tuned into iZombie , you had plenty of chances to watch him in action — minus the southern charm.

6. Autumn Reeser (Olivia Green)

Autumn Reeser Hart of Dixie

In the final episode of Hart of Dixie , we finally got that The O.C. reunion we'd been hoping for when Autumn Reeser showed up to play the new New York lawyer in Bluebell who was taking over for George while he pursued his budding music management career.

Who better to play the newest Bluebell iteration of Zoe Hart than Taylor Townsend herself?!

7. Antoinette Robertson (Lynly Hayes)

Before she was making us laugh as Coco Conners on Dear White People , Antoinette Robertson was charming George Tucker on Hart of Dixie .

She appeared multiple times in the third season as Lynly Hayes, Lavon's little boy-crazy cousin, who ended up eating eggs on George's houseboat and falling hopelessly in love with him, before heading back home.

8. Cassandra Jean Amell (Claudette)

Cassandra Jean Amell Hart of Dixie

You'll soon see her on Roswell, New Mexico , and she once competed to be America's Next Top Model , but she also made a quick (and very memorable) appearance on Hart of Dixie  playing Claudette, the woman who Wade drunkenly left the bar with after losing the Battle of the Bands.

And fans know what came next, as of result of Claudette…

9. Barry Watson (Davis Polk)

Barry Watson Hart of Dixie

Our favorite member of 7th Heaven 's Camden family made an impression on Annabeth Nass during Hart of Dixie Season 3. He was kind, charming, a nerdy podcast host, which sounds oddly familiar to me, and he really loved our AB (who wouldn't, though?).

Unfortunately, this member of the notorious Gainey family also had a closet full of tennis shoes and just wasn't the right guy in the end, but man, Barry Watson was great.

10. Ernie Hudson (Ernie Hayes)

He wasn't in Bluebell to bust any ghosts, but instead to play Lavon's father, who was in the midst of a marital crisis back in the first season.

With some nudging from Lavon and Didi, and a romantic fake Bora Bora (courtesy of Wade), he rekindled his love. But let's stop talking about that and admire the perfect casting of Ernie Hudson as Cress Williams's father.

11. McKayla Maroney (Tonya)

Olympic gold medalist McKayla Maroney appeared in multiple episodes of Hart of Dixie  as Tonya, a sometimes-friend of Rose. While we didn't get enough of her signature "not impressed" face, we were treated to seeing the gymnast have some good ol' fashioned high school shenanigans.

12. Meredith Monroe (Alice Kincaid)

Meredith Monroe Hart of Dixie

The Dawson's Creek veteran took on the task of playing Alice, Lemon's estranged mother in both the first and final seasons of Hart of Dixie .

While her appearance made those who grew up watching Meredith Monroe as Andie question how old they are currently, she turned in a stunning performance as a broken mother. Though Alice never successfully repaired the damage she'd caused to Lemon and Brick, she sure made us emotional while she tried to.

13. Nancy Travis (Emmeline Hattenbarger)

Nancy Travis Hart of Dixie

Nancy Travis ushered Zoe (and the viewers) into Bluebell, introducing its key citizens and giving us excitement that she'd be our guide for the remainder of the series.

Travis, however, was also booked on Last Man Standing , which made her time on Hart of Dixie very short-lived. Fans, however, continue to remember the key role Mrs. H played in Zoe's success in Alabama.

14. Nicholas Podany (Max Burgess)

nicholas podany hart of dixie

He's casting spells on Broadway as Albus Potter now in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child , but Hart of Dixie  fans will always remember that Nicholas Podany's Max Burgess fell in love with Zoe Hart, sent her too many flowers, and started a flash mob at the Rammer Jammer, before going on to be Rose's boyfriend.

What's the spell for a flash mob? Flashious Moballus?

15. Ryan McPartlin (Carter Covington)

ryan mcpartlain hart of dixie

When Chuck 's Captain Awesome popped up playing Carter Covington (a nod to Hart of Dixie writer and producer, Carter Covington) there was no doubt he'd be the perfect southern gentleman to woo Lemon.

A fake romance with Wade, some dalliances with Meatball, and your regular brand of Lemon shenanigans kept them from a full-fledged romance, however. But think about how "awesome" it could have been…
